WigWamBam @ The Queen of Hoxton

If you happen to be in the City of London over the next few months then take your chilly little feet of to the latest fab idea to spring up in the Capital and shake off those winter blues because the Queen of Hoxton’s WigWamBam is back in town! Perched high above bustling Shoreditch on the edge of the city and swathed in fairy lights, the WigWamBam pop-up returns for its second winter. Literally a few steps from Liverpool Street Station you will find the top if this Tipi stretching into the London skyline laced with fairy lights and smoke flowing out of the top of it sending wafts of delicious smells into the street below from the Bar-B-Q

Possibly the cosiest tipi this side of Nebraska, the familiar setting brings back fond memories of camping as a child or during your last summer holiday. Escape from the busy city and relax in a reclining chair by the crackling fire pit complete with (toast-your-own) marshmallows, S’mores (this was something new I experienced when I was there, marshmallow sandwiched in biscuits with a slab of chocolate – oh my, oh my!!) and a hot chocolate ‘spiked’ with a dark spirit of your choosing.

The Queen of Hoxton have truly brought outdoors-in, with their famous, gigantic Schwenkgrill which hangs dramatically from the centre of the tipi cooking up delicious juicy whole lamb, hog roast and mouth-watering haunches of venison – I was so pleasantly surprised at how deliciously tender and flavoursome these meats were and as you know I am totally spoiled with the braai-ing (bar-b-q-ing) prowess of my darling hubbie.

On weekend evenings, staples of wild boar sausages and venison burgers will be on the menu, to be washed down with hot buttered rum. Worry not veggies, as we’ll be feeding you too! Expect ceramic mugs filled to the brim with hearty veggie scotch broth and barbequed, stuffed butternut squash. Yum!

Whilst you sample the warming dark spirits on offer or even powwow in the corner with a steaming hot toddy, the Queen of Hoxton will be holding one-off events in the tipi to keep you thoroughly entertained. Keep your eyes peeled for the programme of events.

If you didn’t get a chance to check out WigWamBam last year then hurry on down (or up!), what are you waiting for?! And if you did, then you’ll know what all the fuss is about!

This year, unlike last year they are open from now – October until March 2013 – that means that in the run up to Christmas when we all feel like partying… there is somewhere offering that something different – and take it from me – it certainly gets you into the Christmas mood with delightful hot toddies with a difference and hot buttered rums…
